The heap is surrounded by the walls of the composter, is only ventilated at the sides and lies with its full weight on the ground.
The he ap becomes compacted and hardly lets any air through. Compost removal is difficult as the entire weight of the heap is on the bucket.
This is why composting professionals recommend moving the pile several times a year, including dismantling and reassembling the device.
